I’ve been thinking about more headcanons for these two (or just… thoughts about them as a couple)
both when things are good — and when they’re not
Victor and karl actually get along… surprisingly well.
Mostly because victor doesn’t like yelling.
He doesn’t lose his temper over small things.
He tries not to push too far, not to provoke him like he does with everyone else.
Because victor is the only one who understands him.
they’re both workaholics.
so neither of them feels neglected when the other gets lost in their work.
karl disappears into his workshop for hours, surrounded by metal and noise.
victor isolates himself in his research center at rhodes hill, buried in notes and experiments.
they don’t mind the distance.
but that doesn’t mean they like it.
because every time they see each other again, there’s this quiet relief.
like finally being able to breathe again.
he’s always saying something stupid, something sarcastic, or proudly telling victor about the latest “prank” he pulled on someone.
are when he actually makes victor laugh.
but something real, something unguarded.
and karl lives for those moments.
karl didn’t really understand the concept before.
whether it’s a comment that goes too far, or something that makes victor uncomfortable — he communicates it.
and in return, victor learns too.
they meet each other halfway.
(also: for some reason, both of them have to be reminded to brush their teeth. constantly.)
even if they try not to… fights still happen.
especially at the beginning.
“why is there a bottle from my sister’s collection here?”
“don’t tell me you’ve developed her kind of taste.”
Why would that be here of all things?
“you take everything personally.”
“it was a gift, karl. are you seriously going to start a fight over a bottle of wine?”
“i should’ve just stayed in my office and worked.”
and that’s how it starts.
sometimes it’s about the wine.
sometimes it’s about victor drinking too much.
sometimes it’s about his taste — the rings, the belts, the coats, the way he carries himself.
the teasing that goes too far.
the same dirty shirt victor hates seeing him wear.
until one of them walks away.
sometimes a full night without sharing the same bed.
and that’s when it really hurts.
victor is quiet. hurt. angry in that controlled, restrained way of his.
and karl hates that feeling.
he shows up with victor’s favorite food.
leaves stupid, awkward messages.
sometimes even flowers, if he’s really desperate.
anything to make it right again.
because at the end of the day…
no matter how much they clash,
no matter how different they are,
they always find their way back to each other.
