As much as I make fun of Touka for being a badly written brat of a villain, as someone who’s had some similarities with my situation (particularly being chronically ill and isolated), I got her and Nemu’s right away.
The game sucks with showing this, but Touka and Nemu are a couple of isolated, chronically ill children whose only influences they can remember are Touka’s dad (who appears to be similar to her), Mifuyu, and Alina.
Mifuyu has no confidence to manage either of them (admittedly this is Touka and Nemu, but she can barely handle Felicia and Sana), and Alina is. well:
So, what we have are two emotionally stunted 11 year olds who are not only isolated from most other people because of a situation out of their control, but have AWFUL influences and windows to the world. This doesn’t excuse them, but it is understandable (or at least, unsurprising) they’d be the way they are when this is their situation.
I really wish the game had given us better insight into this aspect of the two, it would’ve helped at least somewhat with getting us to understand them.
