Drabble || Sirius & Valerie [braveblack] || Dancing Feet
There are certain things that are special to each couple.
Some just like to have sex all the time.
For Valerie and Sirius, it was dancing.
It seemed odd but for them, it was the best time when they were together. There was a war raging on around them and the moments they got to spend together was few and far between. Dancing helped close that bridge that seemed to grow between them as Valerie waited months to even hear that Sirius had made it to his destination. And even then, sending her word was a great risk.
During their first date in Hogwarts, the couple had danced along the sandy 'beach' a secret room had created for them with music that suited the mood. Valerie had been shocked that Sirius could dance (even if they were just slow dancing) but it had quickly become their thing.
Each date Sirius took her on, included dancing at some point during the day. She often worried what people would think if they saw Sirius Black dancing with someone like her and Valerie had once made the mistake of telling him that. Their next date resulted in music being blasted in the streets of Hogsmeade and Sirius pulling Val through the crowd in a crazy dance.
At first, many people just stared and laughed at them but gradually other students began to join in and Sirius told Valerie to never worry what others thought because all that mattered was them having fun.
The year after Sirius graduated was hard. Not only was he fighting the war, Val was still in school and she had to practically beg Professor Dumbledore to tell her if Sirius was at least still alive somewhere. A whole school year of no dancing passed by and Sirius made up for it at Val's graduation.
Sirius had apparently pulled strings to make sure he was there and as soon as he could, Valerie was whisked off to their secret room to dance until neither could stand any more. That had been the night when Sirius asked Valerie to live with him, the pair tangled together.
From then on, whenever Sirius returned home from a mission, no matter how tired he looked to Valerie or how much she fretted that he should eat and rest first; Sirius would walk into the living room and turn on the record player. He wouldn't do anything she wanted until they had one dance together.
After Sirius was framed for the death of the Potters, Valerie put away every record they owned as well as the player. She never turned on the radio, never sang and never danced again. Val locked away all those memories, unable to deal with the confliction they gave her. How could a man that always made sure she was smiling and dancing was capable to kill his best mate and wife? And Peter as well?
When news of his breakout reached her, Valerie only injured herself by waiting for him to come home. Instead, all Valerie got was a single letter from Remus two years later that told her Sirius had died. He had explained everything, how he was framed, how Sirius couldn't risk going to her in fear of getting her into trouble and the less she knew the better. Apparently Sirius had always hoped to see her one day too and enclosed was a list of songs he had wanted to dance to with her.
It took Valerie a year after his death to finally find all the songs Sirius had written down and though she never danced again, at least she had his songs and that was enough for her until her own dying breath.
The good thing about death?
You don't ever get tired of dancing.
