❛ doing alright there, LONGBOTTOM? ❜ there’s a familiar level of high spirits that came with the use of the other’s last name. oliver hadn’t precisely become acquainted with the boy during his days at school but he had known the kind of hilarity that had come with practically knowing him. their house had had on many occasions doubted neville’s ability to belong & the other houses only saw the CLOWN that seemed to get everything wrong but after what they confronted tonight? that would hardly be the case anymore. no, it’s usage this time around wasn’t to pertain to a certain kind of tormenting but to instead address the other as a fellow brother in arms. he feels the weight over his own grief as he silently ponders over those who weren’t so fortunate to have made it through the outcome, plopping himself down beside the other, oliver pulls out a piece of chocolate to offer as a sign of gratitute, ❛ i think given the circumstances, i figured this sounds about right. ❜ @braverystood / sc.
@braverystood : ‘ i like- i like the disaster of the night sky, stars spilling this way and that as- as if they were upturned from a glass. ’
❛ i wouldn’t call that a disaster, neville --- i think the better suited term for it is masterpiece, don’t you think ? ❜ she pulls back from the telescope for a moment to speak, small white dots almost like stars in her vision as it adjusts from a squint. being at the astronomy tower at such an hour probably wasn’t the best idea; if she could recall correctly, he’d cost gryffindor 150 points back in his first year when mcgonagall caught him past curfew, and luna didn’t want that for either of them now. but he’d caught her sleepwalking by the bottom steps of the tower, and she knew nobody could really blame her for that. ❛ i do like how you described it, though. ❜

THE COMMON ROOM WAS FILLED WITH TALKS OF THE SECOND CHALLENGE. Alicia thought the whole TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT was ridiculous. Of course the bravery in her was stirred by the whole thing, but the fact she was underage due to her summer birthday and didn’t want to risk her life for a competition, made her think it was rather a stupid idea. She was reading her charms N.E.W.T’s essay she had gotten back from flitwick for the fifth time. She needed to do better than an E. Looking around the common room she spotted Neville. ❝ longbottom. You need help with that? ❞

HE KNEW THERE WAS A REASON HE LIKED THE OTHER, lips curl into a smug smile and head nods, agreeing with the other. ❝ i knew there was a reason i liked you so much, neville. ❞ he grins, hand clasping his shoulder, ❝ you’re a man of SOLID LOGIC, longbottom, my kind of man. ❞ and with ease he’s pushing past the man to move in front of the group, voice booming, and arms swinging by his side, falling easily into the role of a teacher. ❝ in for a penny, in for a pound, like the man said, LET US JUMP RIGHT IN, who here knows what the impediment jinx is? it’s a vital part of any duelist or in our case, people seeking to defend themselves, arsenal. ❞

it’s almost funny, in a way. at least, she thinks it might be : how could an exam be so frightening, after all the things they’ve seen? all the things they’ve had to see, had to do, just to survive? and yet! and yet. here she is, staring down at the papers and books she’s spread out across the table, forgetting how to breathe.
tests had always done this to her, to varying lesser degrees, but this time is different, it’s worse, because all she can think is that she shouldn’t be feeling this way. she should be stronger. she shouldn’t be so scared of it. but now there’s an entire future hanging just out of reach, one that she feels woefully unprepared for, one that feels more like a yawning void than solid ground.
it’s a good thing, really, that neville appears when he does. she isn’t sure she would have realized how close she was walking to dissolving into her own worry. one nod, and then another, hands drawing into fists on her knees. breathe, hannah, breathe. and then she does, one breath and then another, until she can look over at him with a smile that’s tremulous, but there. “thanks,” she says. “really. i - - - i know it’s....silly. not like we haven’t seen worse.” another deep breath as she looks back down at her books and her notes. “you wouldn’t happen to fancy a walk, would you? i think i might walk by the lake and toss the giant squid some toast. i don’t think i can look at these books a moment longer.”

roger: have you ever been to an animal hospital? neville: no... neville: *imagining a bowtruckle with a tiny stethoscope* neville: ...but i want to.
