Brazen Return // Lucas & Illyeana // V7 W3 Saturday Afternoon
He was back.
It hadn’t been quite so long in term of actual time, maybe a few months at most. But to him it’d seemed like ages. He stood there, looking at the school like an old memory. Possibly a nightmare as he remembered all that had happened there. He didn’t know what he would have done if he hadn’t met Continuance. They’d taught him how to use his abilities, how to channel them as a tool, and while he wasn’t as comfortable with them as he would have liked, they had told him he was at last ready. This was a dry run they’d said, a trial. Lucas had always had a winner’s streak in him, and he wasn’t going to let this one test slip by his fingers. He knew what he had to do. It would be for the best. It was right. It was justice.
He breathed out, feeling outwards with his sharpened senses courtesy of that Cali girl. He wondered if she was still at the school, or if she’d left. Honestly he wouldn’t have been surprised if she had, with everything that had happened there. Her boyfriend had been murdered, someone had murdered the head mistress and framed him for the job, his own explosion. Which again he knew, was no accident. And would never have happened. Someone had done that to him. But he was done running. He suddenly heard a familiar heartbeat, and instinctively willed himself to turn invisible. He didn’t want to be found, not yet, and certainly not by someone he knew.
He cursed under his breath, remembering how he’d asked for and wanted some kind of ability to change his face with so he wouldn’t be recognized. Shapeshifting or something. They’d simply told him that was a troublesome ability to have, and while he was more or less good enough with his other abilities, he wasn’t ready for something like that. It had been annoying, but he’d bowed to their decision.
