"I should have made use of fear, ignorance, and power"
I created this artwork inspired by a scene from the music video for "Medo, Ignorância e Poder" (Fear, Ignorance, and Power) by the Brazilian singer Lourandes. She is an up-and-coming dark pop artist, and I appreciate the depth of the lyrics she writes. I felt that this part of the video resonated somewhat with the essence of the Jester.
I couldn't find any videos with an English translation of the lyrics, so I'm including a Google Translate version of the full lyrics at the end of this post so you can understand the meaning.
The next art I want to create, inspired by that singer, will be of the Ticket Taker.
Lyrics:
I started my journey, I wiped my hands of blood. I became what I hated while rage consumes me.
Should I be better? (I should be)
I should have used fear, ignorance, and power.
I chose to strangle myself just to embrace myself before dying. You know what I did, what I’m about to do.
You know that exposing yourself makes people like you less. I just created an amplified, battered version.
What doesn't make you stronger, kills you.
Hear my music blasting while I'm high on ecstasy. I run through the streets, I ruin your battles.
I build myself, transform myself, refuse to feel guilt. And I try, and I mess up, I should be much better.
And I sin, and I pray. It could be much worse.
Too big for the Minas Gerais scene.
If it’s not now, I don’t want it anymore. If it’s abusive and I’m callous, it makes no difference to me.
Fucking incredible—you have no idea what I’m capable of. I sleep with knives, dream of guns. I became the most hated lyricist.
So many followers—I feel loved, I feel armed. People say I’m right even when I’m clearly wrong.
"Oh, she’s spoiled, a liar, she’s worthless". You envy me because they love me.
Even when I lose it, they applaud.
I know I inspire you—go ahead, call yourself a fan. Little by little, it loses meaning; they aren't people anymore, just numbers on Instagram. And I try to change, but I give up.
I’m a victim of what I created. And success was predicted, but I wanted more. So much more that I blinded myself.
