Breaking Bad Appreciation Week: Day 7. It's all relative. I started drawing after the final episode aired because I was not ready to say goodbye and I haven't stopped drawing since. These drawings led to my first paying illustrator gig and Aaron Paul himself following me on the Instagram. Not to mention my new intense Breaking Bad, wall o' art in my house. I love this show. I will forever love this show. It has literally changed my life.

Breaking Bad Fic Recs

In honor of Breaking Bad Appreciation Week, and also in honor of my ladybro madmarvelgirl's impending completion of the series (don't read these until you finish! But you'll need them to treat the withdrawal symptoms that will set in), I put together a list of my favorite Breaking Bad fics!

NOTE: I always get kind of self-conscious about making rec lists, because I don't want to hurt people's feelings by leaving them off?? So: a disclaimer that these are my personal favorite Breaking Bad fanworks but there are plenty more out there that are also great. You can find them on the internet, using the google!

These are alphabetical by title, and I limited myself to one work per author.

Some of the fic summaries contain mild spoilers for the Breaking Bad finale.

Blood Ties by Selena

Hank and Skyler were the two constants in Marie's life. Now she's lost one, and can't help blaming the other. As loss and rage mingle with love and a lifetime of memories, Marie tries to find a way to cope.

I know I limited myself to one work per author but I really also recommend Selena's Skyler story, to get both sides of the relationship. I love all the backstory for these two.

The Cook Emeritus by vain_glorious

The Nazis use Jesse to settle a debt with an old crime lord acquaintance in Kentucky: Boyd Crowder.

Or, Boyd Crowder receives the gift of a talented meth cook from acquaintances in New Mexico: Jesse Pinkman.

This is really more of a Justified story than a BrBa story, and I would only recommend it if you've seen at least the first two seasons of Justified. But if you have, holy shit, go read this right now because it's a completely perfect crossover and I love everything about it.

How Jesse's attempts to engage Mike in conversation eventually paid off. Set at various points from ABQ to Felina.

Warriorpoet has written a lot of wonderful BrBa stories, but this one is my favorite because Mike. Also has a very clever Felina fix-it that I love so much.

Edge of the Wire by miss_aphelion

"Tell me you didn't do it," he says. "Just try and tell me you didn't do it."

Jesse's voice comes through his headphones accompanied by little vibrations, emotion his audio can't translate. Hank closes his eyes and curses, because this isn't what he was supposed to do. General questions, let Walt talk, let him dig his own grave, that's what he was supposed to do.

An alternate ending to the series that works out better for everyone, hooray!! Great rotating POVs.

Like a Child by stagnation

There were two things Marie Schrader would not tolerate in her household, and they were untreated guests and an ignorance to what was actually happening within the walls of it, not knowing what was going on. Maybe they went in that exact order.

While talking to a friend about season 5 I recently realized that I internalized this fic as canon and there actually is no scene in the show where Marie feeds Jesse lasagna? But I think we can all agree: there should have been.

Jesse is feeling something other than guilt for the first time in a long while.

Remember that time in season 4 when Jesse had some criminal ringleaders who actually cared about him instead of just manipulating him all the time? That was cool. Revisit it with this fic.

I'm always a little grumpy that there's not more fic about Gus, but then I remember that I haven't actually written any myself because he's a tricky character to get a handle on. Here's someone who did it!

Seeing is Believing by Star_sail

Jesse in prison post-Felina, dealing with his demons and getting some help along the way...

This was a gift for me in the Blue Christmeth exchange and it's so great!! It's a beautiful comic about Jesse in prison, with a lovely optimistic note.
