Let’s talk about #catcollars.
“Why do I need one?”
Simply put, anything can happen. A guest can leave a door open. A cat can get bold. Accidents happen. Keep them safe by keeping ID on them at all times.
.
“But aren’t they dangerous?”
If you use a non-breakaway collar (like designed for dogs), they can get caught on something. This could include a branch, a footboard, or even their paw. When they struggle, they could injure or even strangle themselves. Breakaway collars are designed with buckles that come open under enough tension, to protect the animal from harm.
.
“My cat always takes their collar off!”
Traditional #breakawaycollars only take a few pounds of force to pop them open, which I found utterly insufficient for my rough and tumble boys. I tried all sorts of collars before settling on @madebycleo, who uses a buckle that takes TWICE the amount of force to open.
.
“My cat has had a #collar for a while, but now they take it off all the time!”
Look at the buckle. Does it have all rounded edges? If there are no hard edges, there is nothing to keep the buckle from popping open. This can happen from wear and tear, often from being yanked open numerous times.
.
Pictured above is Orko’s collar that we purchased in January. Everyone else’s collars are doing well, but Orko has been especially naughty and worn down the buckle. This means it’s time for a new one! Thankfully, they should be having their Fall sale in a few weeks. Until then, the fight continues!
