Now it's Eve's turn!
Breaking The Cycle (part 25)
Headcanon that bruce is obsessed with his sleepy children
He like never gets tired or when he finally does get tired, he just immediately passes out. Bruce doesn’t have a “sleepy” mode so he didn’t know what that looked like until Dick was living with him and he loves it
He will wake them up when he gets home from patrol literally just to see them whiny and half-lidded because he cannot stop himself
And I personally believe that while Dick is super cuddly and affectionate when he’s tired, some of them would be mean when they get woken up, specifically Tim. But Bruce doesn’t care. Like Tim is straight up cussing him out and throwing elbows every time Bruce shakes him awake in the middle of the night, but Bruce is just so happy that it doesn’t phase or deter him
And the kids eventually have to have an intervention because Bruce is waking up everyone that is not on patrol at like 3 am and they are so tired the next day that they can barely function
Also, I think the only one who is secretly okay with this habit is Cass. She is such a light sleeper anyway that it doesn’t really phase her to be woken up and she gets to see Bruce after patrol and make sure he’s okay and he will probably give her a hug, which helps her sleep better.
Sometimes it genuinely surprises me how easy it is to just not be a shit parent. My mother used to scream at me for all sorts of stuff, even just being age appropriate difficult.
Last night my son screamed and screamed his head off. And don't get me wrong. I was frustrated and tired and I was tempted to just put him down and let him cry it out but I didn't.
I held him and pat his back and just kept going "it's okay, mama's got you. You can sleep when you're ready, you're safe" and eventually, FINALLY, at 2 in the morning, he finally fell asleep with his little fist firmly clutched in my hair and his face burrowed into my chest.
I stayed in the recliner for an extra hour to make sure he was in deep sleep before putting him down. And don't get me wrong, I'm EXHAUSTED and definitely taking a nap later, but I surprised myself with my own patience.
Bc my mother always said that I'd "understand" when I became a mom. And she definitely would have put the baby down to cry it out and maybe even lose her temper (he's 4 months btw, almost 5). Well... I'm a mom now, mom. And I... still don't get it. I get why you were mad, but I don't get why you lost ur shit. Bc frankly, it's not that hard to be kind to my own baby who clearly needs his mother. 🤷♀️
This is how you break the cycle of parental abuse.
Parenting is difficult and exhausting, but abuse is never warranted or inevitable.
That moment, when during punishment, your daughter asks "and if I do it again, you will send me away and I will never be able to come back and you will not want me?"
And you have to stop everything to look her straight in the eyes and tell her that no matter what, she will never be sent away, never in her life will we let her go, give up on her, or not want or love her anymore. No matter what, this house will always have its door open for her and she will always call this place "home".
And getting over your own trauma as a child when your main caregiver opened the door in front of your face and told you to go, to find another house and family, and all the days you spent as a child being sure that your family doesn't love you and that they will soon drop you at some institution because "we can no longer tolerate your behavior" "you are inherently bad as your father" "go to his house (in another country), ask him to take you in"
It takes a lot of courage and effort not to become like the adults who raised you. When you try to be a better patent, you heal you inner hurt and traumatized child at the same time.
so tactile already, deadbeat who?
