How would you describe your relationship or your love life?
Right now I’m in a long-distance relationship and it is probably the happiest I have ever been. it is hard at times because of course there is a lack of physical contact but what people fail to realize is our communication is stronger than most. We’ve never been intimate and never seen each other face to face in person but we video chat and text every day. He understands me more than any other person I’ve ever been with and we come from two different cultures. Sometimes it feels so weird because I have to tell myself wow I’m really happy and I wouldn’t change anything about him.
Do you feel pressured by society or your family or friends to be in a relationship or actively date?
No I don’t feel any pressure since I decided that no one can control my biological clock but me. why rush to be in situationships just to be unhappy and regretful. i am quite comfortable knowing I can get married whenever I choose and have kids when I want to. My mom has never made me feel as if I needed to be with any man and my friends we all just testing the waters. and my man he left his last girlfriend because she wanted to rush him into marriage because she felt as if they were getting too old. so, we have an understanding that we have time.
How do you think your relationship status has changed you as a person and how you view yourself as a woman?
My relationship status has taught me how to be more understanding of my man’s culture and how patience is a great thing especially since he is so far away. It changed my view of myself as a woman because I learned what I like and don’t like and what ill stand for and wont stand for. I developed skills I didn’t even know I was capable of. And even though I made plans I still don’t really think I’m completely ready to give all of myself. its like any growth where its going to be new and I’m going to have a new life and I’m going to be a new person.
What song defines you as a woman?
Nina Simone “Feeling good”. The verse where she says the freedom is mine and I know how I feel. I feel it so deep in my soul. I just have an old soul at times and everything from the band to the strength and the tone of her voice just brings me to a grounded place.
