I haven't publicly spoken yet about this in-depth but I cannot express fully with words how much I personally admire and adore the conversation that happens when you, as Halligan, attempt to prompt Melanie to continue talking after you've already finished all of the dialogue trees for the conversation you have with her at Twelve Bridges. I'm talking about this one:
Halligan: "We could continue our little...private conversation, couldn't we?"
Melanie: "You don't talk to women very often, do you, Brent?"
Halligan: "No. Why? Does it show?"
Melanie: "Yes, it does. You're quite pushy, and you don't even realize it!"
Halligan: "Oh! I'm getting on your nerves...Sorry."
Melanie: "Hey...Don't take it like that, Brent. Well, we'll be spending some time together anyway...But now we should do something about our other problems, alright?"
Halligan: "Alright."
She is by no means cruel to him for his mistake. She just tells him that they can't continue talking right now, reassures him that it's no big deal, and moves on. It's such a sincere moment. It's handled so simply.
And you know, I'm actually grateful for that, because it's exactly what I'd want out of a relationship. Just total honesty and clarity. There is no berating him for not understanding. Simply saying things as they are. "We can talk later. It's nothing personal. But now is not the time."
And that's just so wonderful to me honestly.
