AU where person A is a playful ghost and decides to fuck with person B, who seems kind of miserable. They try and try, but like person B doesn't seem affected so they're r e a l l y confused. Turns out person B could see them all this time and traps person A, chaos ensues
Roger would totally be the fucking ghost. He couldn’t find his way to the light, so he’s trapped on earth. For years, he’s just kinda watched people pass by. If he saw a crying child or someone just having a bad day, he would try to cheer them up. Maybe picking a flower and setting it in front of the person. And if he sees someone being an asshole, he would trip them or something. But for the most part he would just sit and watch everyone.
One day he sees a man walk past. His eyes dull and lips in a tight frown as he walks. Roger tries his little flower trick to try and cheer him up, but the man ignores it. For the next week, Roger continues to see the man walk past. Looking more and more miserable. Roger has tried many tricks to try and cheer the man up, but nothing has worked. Getting more and more frustrated, he decides to then follow the man where ever he goes. He follows the man, he finds out who is named Brian, to his home. Soon, he’s just trying to get Brian to acknowledge him so he starts flipping the lights on, making stacks of papers/books fall, hiding things, and just trying to be obvious.
Brian brings home a mysterious box one day and sets it on the coffee table. Roger, of course the little nosey shit he is, gets close and touches the box before being completely sucked inside. Shocked and scared he tries to get out.
“Why are you haunting me?” A voice from outside asks. Roger freezes.
“…Ha-haunting you…? Wait… You could see me?!” The ghost exclaims angrily.
“Yes. I thought you were just some creep… but I noticed no one else could see you.” Brian speaks softly, though Roger could hear the man was slightly annoyed.
“I wasn’t haunting you!! You looked upset! I just wanted to make you smile, but you kept ignoring me…” Roger huffs. The human stayed silent for a moment.
“…make me smile…?” He finally heard the man ask quietly. “But why?”
“I don’t know. I just hate seeing people mope about, when they should be happy and cherish their lives…” The ghost speaks with honesty. It’s quiet before the box clicks and opens. Roger wastes no time to escape from the trap.
“If you stay here, will you stop messing with everything?” Those hazel eyes look straight at Roger and the ghost felt a strange happiness. No one has looked at him in so long…
“Only when you start to smile.” Roger states, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
If he had a heartbeat it would have stopped at the sight of Brian’s lips twitch up ever so slightly. It wasn’t a smile, but it was progress.
