Sirius had been desperate for a day out. He’d been living at Arcturus’ estate, and as much as he loved his grandfather (a surprisingly tolerable man), he was starting to go mad there. He needed a break from it all. So, he’d popped over to Diagon Alley for a bit of ice cream and a day in the sun. Thankfully, he hadn’t run into any familiar faces. He knew it’d be hard to confront James or Lily or any of the other Marauders. After enjoying his ice cream he’d moved on to Horizont Alley, needing to get some new, more appropriate dress robes and attire. Now that he had a bit of money to his name again, he needed to look the part. 

As he strolls he gets lost in thought, and he almost runs straight into a pretty, familiar face. “Oh! Briar, my apologies.” He offers a smile. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.” He greets her like a friend, even though he hasn’t spoken with her in quite some time. He has no idea if she even knows he’s back in the good graces of the pureblood world, but with how word travels in their society he has no doubt she’s heard whispers. 

“How are you? I hope I didn’t startle you.”

Location: Roman’s flat, London. Mid-morning.

Roman was still acclimatizing to his living space in London- despite the fact that he’d been living in it, on and off, for the past several years. Though he was grateful the Ministry had provided him with a place to stay, it didn’t come close to the luxuries he’d grown used to in France. 

The flat was small, too cosy and not at all is style, and still felt like an unfamiliar space. Though he was always doing his best to add his own personal touches to feel more at home; a gilded mirror here, a teal throw pillow there. A number of silver adornments- perhaps too many. A futile attempt at making the place into a home, and he spent many a morning rearranging furniture and redecorating and cleaning.

He was lost in his thoughts one such morning, awash with homesickness. The worst part of it all was that he realized there was something he was supposed to remember, though he couldn’t possibly think what it was. As he stood in the middle of his kitchenette in his silk evening robe and watched the kettle whistle, he racked his brain for what it may be. Perhaps there was a picture frame he’d forgotten to hang up, or...

As if on cue, there was a knock at the front door.

Ah yes, he mused to himself, that’s what it was.

He waved his wand lazily, and the front door swung open to allow his guest in.

“I’m in the kitchen, chéri,” he called out, hoping she’d hear, “If you’d like to join me.”

He’d forgotten he’d invited Briar over. He’d never had the inclination to invite a person into this space before, so why now? Perhaps that’s why he’d so easily forgotten about it.

When he heard footsteps approaching, he took the kettle off the stove and poured the steaming liquid into a Shelley teacup.

“Good morning,” he drawled, around a yawn. “Please excuse the mess.” He knew the flat was immaculate, for all intents and purposes, but that didn’t mean it looked good- or fit for guests.
