Dancing with Katya’s Babushka. This work combines interviews with her 93 year old grandmother and her signature style of sculpture on the head of a man walking around. The songs in Ukrainian, the stories her grandmother’s grandparents being shot because one forgot his Tallis and wanted to go back and get it just as the Germans were invading is heartbreaking. But the work is so light because of Babushka’s singing and dancing and beauty. I love the glimpse of the artist in a mirror. Open til the 7th. Go! (Also, makes me wish I had interviewed my parents. My dad was in WWII.) #mustsee #bricbiennial #feministart #videoart #family #immigration #katyagrokhovsky @katyagrokhovsky https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv2YoDblSzL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=r4inkdaxu92o
