“I came up with the initial idea of what would be BRIDE X while I was attending art college (probably 2002). The “woman scorned” premise had been interesting to me since I was a kid, and I felt it was time to create my own vehicle for that. Honestly, BRIDE (as it was called then) was inspired by many stories I read or saw growing up: an episode of Tales From The Crypt featuring an undead bride getting revenge on the husband that poisoned her to death, or the foreign film ‘The Bride Wore Black’, where a bride is widowed on her wedding day only to systematically destroy the assassins one by one afterward. I even did a derivative story for an assignment in the 6th grade, cutting my teeth on the material early on. The work started as a “vengeful spirit/ghost story” and didn’t evolve much until I revisited my designs in 2011. Although the present incarnation is considerably different from what I started with, don’t be surprised if some throwbacks to the base influences sneak themselves into this Fall’s SAGABOOK.“ Art by the incomparable @shaneew25 , aka Sha-Née Williams .
