Happy Halloween! 🎃
I was kind of scrambling to get this done in time for the Bridgerween event. I didn’t even start until Monday. 😱 This fic kind of got away from me as I tried to include as many characters as I could. This is set in my Lightning Strike modern AU series, three years before the events of I Finally Love This Town.
Snippet!
Penelope and Sophie bustled around the kitchen at Bridgerton House in companionable silence, moving in a carefully coordinated dance around oven doors and nosy family members. Colin, always found wherever there was food, hovered around the other side of the island. Fairy cakes and biscuits were locked in the pantry, safe from wandering fingers and rumbling bellies, the table covered with an array of candy apples and meringues.
“Where's your fella?” Sophie asked. “What's his name, Theo?”
“Who's Theo?” Colin interjected.
Penelope flushed. “Oh, it just kind of fizzled out,” she said lamely.
“Bad in bed?” Sophie inquired, voice laced with sympathy.
Penelope did not think her face could get any hotter. “Kind of the opposite actually. Nothing to talk about outside of it.”
Colin dropped the biscuit he had stolen and muttered a curse.
“How did you get that biscuit?” Sophie demanded, pointing her spatula accusingly. “If you’re not going to help cook, you had better find something else to do. There won’t be anything left for the party if you keep hanging around in here. Go on, off with you!” The petite blond chased her brother-in-law from the room, threatening him with the spatula until he surrendered and headed off to help Gregory with the games. She put her spatula to proper use when she returned to the hob, sautéing mushrooms for pies.
