blake’s i love yous come in the form of promises. she doesn’t make promises she knows she can’t keep. she has great intention with her words, despite a lofty plan when it comes to establishing her goals. one example of that is the “i’ll protect you” said to yang in the recent episodes. although it was said naively, and ill received by yang, blake fully intended to keep that promise. because of her elusive and reckless nature, as well as past trauma small acts of kindness and allowing someone to see facets of her vulnerability count as i love yous, such as the kiss to sun’s cheek in the beginning of volume six, or how blake places a blanket over weiss’ shoulders at brunswick farm. that is all, however, speaking platonically. another platonic way of saying “ i love you ” from blake, even unintentionally, is assigning someone an associated word, like she has her teammates, and adam ( because she did love him at one point, even if she doesn’t now. ) romantically, blake has not figured it out yet. she has never, truly, been in love before.
