These Vengeful Hearts
“So you’re doing this for what? Like revenge or something?” - “Or something. I’m not becoming one of them. Not really. I’m joining so I can destroy the Red Court.”
Golden Boy
After his entire pack and family were murdered by a group of hunters, Stiles is left to fend for himself. He has no home to come back to, no family or friends he can stay with. At least not here. Stiles remembers a woman, who trained him when he was a kid. Even though he hasn't seen her in almost ten years, his mother made sure Stiles would keep her number in his phone in case of an emergency. When he called her, she didn't ask questions and ordered him to get on the next train and meet her in Beacon Hills.
Following her instructions, Stiles is leaving his home behind and runs for his life. He's learned how to stay under the radar when he was little. It's something creatures like him should be aware of. The pack he's grown up with is one of the few that doesn't care about his nature. But there are others out there — some merely shun him, others, however, are out to kill him.
When he reaches his destination, Stiles meets Morrell as well as a guy his age, who turns out to be the second in command of a werewolf pack. After what happened in New York City, Stiles isn't exactly thrilled about being around another werewolf pack; especially one that might not know what he is. After all, creatures like him learn one lesson very early on: you are safe with the wolves, but the wolves aren't safe with you.
Stiles tries to keep his distance, he really does, but it keeps getting harder and harder every passing day. He misses having a pack, having a family. Most of all, he's struggling to stay away from Brett Talbot, who's just as charming as he is arrogant. After all, his mother taught Stiles to live, and Brett is so very alive. How is he supposed to resist?
Perfect On Paper
A week after Brett's eighteenth birthday, Satomi decides that it's about time to introduce him as her successor to the other packs of California. Stiles has listened to him complain about it for the past few days like a good emissary-to-be would. To make sure Brett meets as little resistance as possible, Satomi invites Stiles along as well.
On their way to San Francisco, Brett gives him a few tips on how to behave around the other werewolves, especially the alphas. Stiles makes a mental note not to antagonize anyone. It shouldn't be that hard if he sticks to Brett the whole time. Without any warning or explanation, Brett keeps his distance, barely talks to him, and insists on sleeping in different hotel rooms. It's not that Stiles expects Bett to be entirely honest about the nature of their relationship, but he's still surprised when Brett introduces him as his emissary.
It's not entirely untrue. Stiles is supposed to become Brett's emissary once he'll be the alpha. However, they were friends first. Everything else — the sex, the whole emissary thing, and the feelings — followed after. Stiles isn't proud of it, but when he overhears Brett insisting to one of the infuriatingly beautiful alphas that Stiles is just his emissary, he excuses himself and hurries out of the hotel. He needs to think this through because becoming Brett's emissary doesn't seem like such a good idea anymore.
