The combination of sunlight beginning to pour in through the high windows and the motion of her husband stirring beside her caused her to blearily open her eyes and yawn. The bed side clock read 8:37 am, and Kate remembered with a soft sigh of content that it was one of those rare days where her day off and his coincided.
She took a moment to appreciate the sunlight illuminating Sherrinford’s sleeping form before shifting closer to press a good-morning kiss to his lips. A squeal of surprise and delight escaped her as his arms wrapped and tightened around her waist and he greeted her with 7 kisses- her lips, the tip of her nose, both eyelids and cheeks, and finally her forehead. Kate giggled and pressed her forehead to Sherrinford’s briefly before settling her head against his shoulder, her face tucked into his neck and her legs tangling with his.
So often, they didn’t need words. Silence meant more than just quiet to them, it was comfortable, warm. She carded the tips of her fingers absently through his dark hair, humming softly for a moment.
“Penny for your thoughts.” Kate murmured, propping herself to look at him and smile sleepily. Sherrinford smiled in return, that special, only-for-her smile that reached his eyes and warmed the grey of his irises, and pressed another kiss to the side of her head before responding.
"In this moment, I find myself only capable of thinking about you. Your golden hair, slight curves and your eyes which never cease to cause my heart to dance."
His voice was lower than usual from sleep and with his words, Kate felt a warm, pleased pink blush creep up her neck and cheeks. As often as they exchanged loving words, the sound of his voice and his poetic manner of speaking would never fail to make her heart flutter.
“Mmm. I’m thinking about how I wish this morning could be just a little bit longer, we don’t get to do this nearly enough.”
They lapsed into another brief silence until Kate broke it with an amused chuckle.
“What’s funny?”
“You know what we should be thinking about, though... how suspicious it is that it’s so quiet!”
She laughed again, returning her head to his shoulder and kissing his neck affectionately.
They were more than content to enjoy the quiet anyways.
