Thoughts on an Elsbeth that was an hour early because reasons I guess that felt like a High Potential episode, really tickled my Billboard/pop special interest and kinda had themes about both pawns and the power of fandom

and the show's still popping off with the social commentary and reminding me of things I've seen happen in hip-hop

leave it to this show to connect the two "worlds" of the story with something like that

It's not just because Elsbeth has at least sorta established a motif (albeit only with short temporary ones nothing like that this season so far) of oldies needle-drops instead of show tunes when Elsbeth and Kaya are notably separate or that this sounds like the kind of non-show-tune song Elsbeth would like (as much as one can say one likes a song that's got this kind of emotionality) anyway but this song kinda feels like it very much has Elsbeth-missing-Kaya vibes (and any points where the lyrics would seem overstating the situation compared to that could just be explainable in any context-where-it's-representing-her-feelings with Elsbeth being an overly-attached overdramatic little so-and-so in a manner reminiscent of a certain as-ADHD LA firefighter) and even if this couldn't be gotten onto the show while Kaya's in this undercover arc (that I hope is going to be temporary #justice4kaya) I think this could make quite the poignant AMV

Whatever one's moral feelings about police DAE get a little annoyed when fictional depictions of police don't appear to follow even what media has established as how police work in fiction never mind how they work in reality like how the detectives on Elsbeth don't appear to have partners (or if Kaya could come back to the show full time somehow after this season/her undercover arc is over #justice4kaya #bringbackblanke they could get the dynamic duo back to working together by just doing for Elsbeth what the LAPD did for Morgan on High Potential with the consultant badge and the 90%-of-the-time-treated-like-just-another-detective (as if you look at the seven episodes/cases there've been since the case Kaya got promoted in the middle of there's two (three if you count the murder she solved while behind bars) where it was mainly just Elsbeth and an officer no other detective, the most recent one with the hostage situation in the toy store and the S2 one with the funeral parlor and the mystery novelist) just with Kaya as her partner like how Morgan has Karadec) or how Idris Elba's Zootopia character Bogo's title doesn't match his role (he's referred to with the title "Chief" but if you were to compare Zootopia against the live-action cop shows it's clearly inspired by (just a movie instead of a show god do I wish we got an hour-long animated procedural sequel instead of the movie Zootopia 2) to compare it to how "TV policing" works and look at his role in the movie versus that he's clearly intended to be more like a police captain (if that, some of his scenes would kinda imply captain some would imply lieutenant) than a chief, I get that the precinct Judy's at in Zootopia is the big-name heart-of-the-city one everyone wants to work at or w/e but I don't think even there that a rookie's direct boss would be referable to by the title chief)

Thoughts on a High Potential where I kept getting reminded of Elsbeth (esp. with Morgan and Ava parallels with Elsbeth and Teddy), Ozdec got some action (but no not like that yet), and this show's Captain Wagner (seriously how has no one noticed both High Potential and Elsbeth have one) seemingly took himself out of potential love-interest-running but just might be some potentially-Game-Maker-connected twist villain

Morgan and Ava kinda reminding me a bit of Elsbeth and Teddy from Elsbeth (and not just because, with no context of original show for what they might copy-or-not, I feel like (even if it's not the same thing) they might be foreshadowing Ava going into some kind of similarly-fighting-bad-guys field if this show lasts long enough *knock on wood* to see her grow up)

so she did have the backpack

looks like we're getting a Halloween episode a week early (hope that means the one after that still kinda has Halloween energy), fingers crossed this might be the supernatural-being-proven-canon kind of episode I wanted (whether or not it implies Oz can see ghosts though I hope if it acknowledges the paranormal it does)

Thoughts on the Elsbeth S3 premiere (a half hour earlier than anticipated) that almost made up for its lack of Kaya with weird fractal meta Broadway/TV shenanigans, Elsbeth's theatricality on full display and what of the three officers we've seen since Kaya made detective is the coolest officer yet

I wonder how much of this came from real-life Late Show behind-the-scenes

oh so that's coming back again

so we're not starting with the murder?

so I'm still having trouble figuring out what Kaya's deal is/how temporary the demotion could be/how much she'll appear/if she can come back to regular

but I was right about the best gift being for her

quite a way to do the little figured-it-out speech (and is her doing so from the audience in that kind of outfit some kind of reference)

Because of course it's a show tune that led me to an epiphany about where Kayabeth could go from here (since friendly reminder Kaya isn't leaving-leaving)

Listening to "From Now On" from The Greatest Showman and kinda got Kayabeth vibes especially "for years and years I chased their cheers/the crazy speed of always needing more/but then I stop and see you here/I remember who all this was for" aka the song got me plot-bunnying that maybe we'll get a couple seasons of Kaya-as-recurring-guest-star (they said we'd only see a bit less of her) until either something burns her out about the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity (I know it'd be more than just that but I've seen enough other cop shows to know undercover work can be rough on one's mind and heart sometimes) and/or she realizes how much Elsbeth needs her and comes back and perhaps that's when the slow-burn starts actually moving (y'know, a mutual "absence makes the heart grow fonder" situation)
