So close, yet still so far away.... I was only 11 books from completing my goal of 50. I guess that’s still to much. I devour books. I’m sometimes obsessive really. When I find a story that draws me in there is really nothing anyone can do to stop my mania. But I think that a desire to read and become engrossed in a story is a beautiful thing. It’s not like watching a television show or a movie. In those cases you’re just mindlessly watching someone else’s depiction of a story. Yes – when an author writes a scene for you he or she is doing much the same thing – but in books the interpretation and visualization of the moments and characters are all up to you. There is neither music nor sound effects to guide you – and you don’t even have the aid of skilled actors to pull your heartstrings. But, when you’re reading, you’re by yourself – it’s all up to you to bring the story to life. You recreate each moment and that is what makes reading so special – so yeah it’s happening all in your mind, “but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
