A Brisingid, a type of deep-sea starfish, perches on a ledge among many brittle stars (ophiuroids) at a site east of Saunders Island, observed while exploring the deep-sea of the South Sandwich Islands.

Brisingids are different from typical sea stars because they reach their arms out into the current and use spines on their arms as velcro to capture tiny prey as food.
These sea stars cling to a sponge on the seafloor to reach higher into the water column to increase their chances of catching something as it drifts by.
