Why does it seem the dress is always sparklier on the other side of the street? This is especially true in New York City, where even if you own luxury pieces there is probably nowhere to hang them. Walk-in closets are somewhat of an urban legend in this city- even glorified cupboards masquerading as closets live in obscenely expensive apartments. I laughed when Carrie Bradshaw admitted she used her oven as storage… until I moved to New York and found an oven, or even a shower rod, is a perfectly rational (and necessary) way for a fashion girl to store her purchases. The struggle is real.

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a neighbor that was exactly your same clothing and shoe size? You’d double your wardrobe without worrying about closet logistics. Enter Village Luxe. Founder Julia Gudish Krieger recently launched Village Luxe, a members only app that posts fashion girls’ high end wardrobes and allows exclusive members to rent the pieces. I especially love this app because a lot of my personal clothing is unique, which makes it tough to repeat ensembles without someone noticing. Social media and wedding season really add to this sartorial pressure.

With Village Luxe, not only can I rent a neighbor’s coveted pieces for specific events like date night, a tropical vacation or a birthday party, but then my own wardrobe can pay me back in the same manner. Think about all the only-worn-once special occasion dresses taking up valuable space in your closet. Literally, valuable space. Shouldn’t my wardrobe get out there and earn its keep?

Since I love my clothing and shoes so much, I used to fret that some of them rarely got out of the apartment. Now I can rent these beauties to a fellow fashion girl who will show my pieces a good time. Everyone wins!
