Last night I finished reading this book 📕

Britney Spears Song by Song by @esteveyb is a pretty good read that breaks down Britney’s entire catalog… song by song, era by era including unreleased tracks.

I read one chapter per day and I listened to each album corresponding to the chapter I was reading at the time. Reading the book made me super nostalgic for Britney’s music and took me into a happy, yet bittersweet journey remembering each era and how it impacted my life at the moment and what these songs meant to me back then and what they mean to me now.

I don’t know if Britney will make music again (I hope she does, but only if she wants to) As a long time fan I will continue to cherish and honor her legendary discography through my silly instagram posts and videos.

If you haven’t checked out this book and you’re a Britney fan or just a fan of music overall, I’d recommend reading it.

In 2008, Britney’s life took a momentous turn as it appeared to unravel right before us. The images of her shaving her head and attacking a paparazzo’s car with an umbrella shocked the world. It was a moment of vulnerability and despair, but we must ask ourselves, is shaving one’s head a cardinal offence? In hindsight of time, the answer is a resounding no. But that incident was one of the things that led to conservatorship.

In her own words, Britney reflects on those dark days, “You can’t even do any damage with an umbrella. It was a desperate move by a desperate person.” Her actions were a cry for help, a plea for understanding as she grappled with perinatal depression, anxiety, divorce, the loss of her maternal aunt Sandra, with whom she was very close, and a contentious child custody battle.
