Hi I'm sydney! Not sure if we've spoke before, and I wanted to introduce myself. I wanted to know more about where you work (I'm hoping to work or own my own dairy in the future)
We have not spoken before! It’s very nice to meet you, Sydney. This is also my first ask ever. I’m pretty excited about that, lol.
I work on a small-scale urban dairy goat farm (called The Dancing Goat) located in Florida. I’m a milker and nanny. Nannies are responsible for helping with the delivery of babies as well as their general care when it’s kidding season. Kidding season is currently happening right now! It’s the busiest (and best) part of the year.
We keep 3 types of registered dairy goats on the farm: alpine, lamancha, and saanen.
The farm is owned by an amazing lady named Pam. She’s had it for over 10 years (she started out by showing goats at every chance she got) and most of the work done is thanks to dedicated volunteers. The Dancing Goat is known for its delicious cheeses, goat milk, and goat milk soaps. All are made on property. Her products are sold every weekend at a local market. I can ask her about any other additional questions you may have. :)
She also keeps chickens, quails, geese, and ducks on property and will sell the eggs. We also have an adorable alpaca named JJ, 2 horses, and 2 rabbits. All are rescues. The Dancing Goat also acts as the farm branch for the nearby Humane Society. We will rehabilitate cats until they are well or old enough for adoption as well take in cats considered too feral for regular domesticated life.
I’ve been working there for 3 years now and I absolutely love it. Nothing beats the farm life and goats are truly amazing animals to be around.
Hopefully this helped a little!
