I really like these two photos because on the very last page of our book we are asking the readers to think of their own hero. We also hope that our book provides our readers with a lesson that they can be their own hero as well. Believing in themselves is a reward on it’s own.

Operation Homefront plans to provide military members and families in need with holiday meals this year. They have been doing so since 2009 and every year it is a huge success. This year they plan to reach past their goal of 2,000 meals in the Tri-State area at Fort Drum in NY. Kid Rock is teaming up with Jim Beam in order to make the holidays much easier and happier for military and families to get through.

Proof

We have all finally ordered the proof of our book this past weekend. We are all excited to receive our own copies even though it is not the final product. It will be cool to see all our photos and texts lined out in front of us. The proof will be able to help us create our final version because we will be able to depict the actual sizes of the pictures and pages as well as the thickness of the book. We arranged the content so that a variety of our submissions will be seen throughout the book. We didn’t really have time to work with colors and design but we plan to make it much more dramatic in our final book. I’m interested in seeing the difference between our proof and final copy.

Blurb

After watching the tutorial videos and exploring the site, I think Blurb will be a very organized and exciting tool to use while creating our book. I especially like all the editing options it allows for different formats, fonts, colors, etc. However, if I didn’t have some previous help I would have been pretty lost and struggling while composing text and photo pages. I may be a little concerned about working with a MAC because I’m so used to my PC and I hope that my work doesnt get changed around when I’m switching computers. But I’m very open minded and I trust this website to make the process of creating and publishing our book an easy one.

This video gave me a wake up call because yes I used to be and still do download music and movies illegally off the internet, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I knew it was unauthorized but I didn't realize how big of a scandal it was and how serious a crime it could be considered. We are now part of that scandal. Piracy is a huge problem and I was surprised at how much money is actually lost through the stealing process. Not only are they being copied for leisure but the material is often recreated and their is no credit being given. It is impossible to be stopped because so many people are neglecting the copyright law that it will just resurface over and over. Yes you can sue everyone but how realistic is it to track down every single person?

e-books, the future in our hands?

E-books are at a constant growth and popular demand throughout the technology world. Traditional books are slowly depleting and will eventually be seen as an inconvenience. E-books are similar to that of a television and an on demand service. Books are available to you by a press of a button, or in this case press of your screen.

However, the statement that e-books will change the world is quite overestimated. Yes it will change the way we look at things and learn information but that information is still the same just in a different format, right? But Hillesund talks about how the E-book would be beneficial to schools and such companies and the features that will sky rocket the determining success rate. E-books would be accessible and convenient price wise as well as availability wise. So the future is inevitable and only time will tell where books and the written work stands.
