BAPI NYC 2014
Mashery's Business of APIs conference is a long-running part of our efforts to educate the business world about the benefits of APIs and API management. This year at BAPI NYC 2014, the focus moved firmly towards the Internet of Things (and wearables) with talks from numerous industry luminaries including API Science's John Musser, Brivo Labs GM Lee Odess and Basis Maro Della Torre. In the above photo, Oren Michels (CEO of Mashery), discusses APIs with New York Times CIO Marc Frons.
The event started off early Wednesday morning on October 8th in the Jazz at Lincoln Center venue located on the corner of Central Park. The view, needless to say, was spectacular.
I was on-site with demos including a MakerBot Mini 3D printer, Intel Edison and Intel's newly launched Context Sense SDK. Over the course of the day, business decision makers stopped by to take a look at the latest and greatest internet of things technologies focusing on context, 3d printing and making (Edison).
Cassandra Murray of the mighty Mashery Events team demonstrated a brand new style "putting a dragon on it."
Marco Della Torre gave an interesting talk about the future of wearable devices including a discussion on the new Basis Peak. He also spent a few minutes highlighting the capabilities of the Intel Edison.
Lee Odess from Brivo Labs got on stage to outline a new approach to building security termed Social Access Management, powered by a device called the ID Box (prototyped using Intel Galileo and Intel Edison).
Finally, Intel SSG GM Hank Skorny gave closing remarks with several insightful quotes including "APIs are the fabric of the internet of things...we are moving from an era of human controlled computing to an era of human orchestrated computing." Overall, it was a nice one day event highlighting the exciting new world of IoT technologies and APIs which are rapidly approaching.
