Rover had worked with BRM during the 1950s developing gas turbine power units. The 1961 T4 used a Rover P6 prototype, still in development at the time, and was powered by a Rover 2S/140 gas turbine, featuring a single centrifugal compressor and a single combustion chamber using kerosine as fuel. Scheduled for production in 1964, the project was cancelled due to high production costs, poor fuel economy, and difficult throttle control.
