Number Two With A Bullet...Club
"I returned to wrestling sometime post-pipe bomb during “The Summer of Punk” in 2011. I had checked out of wrestling around the time WCW folded and was sold to Vince McMahon–setting up “The Invasion” and the Pepsi plunge of interest in professional wrestling shortly thereafter. It’s very easy to compartmentalize wrestling into WWE and well, uh, so, yep, anyone? Vince McMahon/WWE is “wrestling” the way Nintendo is “video games” to your parents. They get the hooks in early.
But in the last year it seems that there may finally (yes, finally) be a Sony or at least Dreamcast Era Sega gunning for that number two spot. If WWE is the undisputed (16 German Suplexing) Heavyweight Champ, could the tag team of Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Ring of Honor and the biggest promotion outside of the United States, “New Japan Pro Wrestling,” be Intercontinental Champs? Or maybe “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett and “Sin City 2″ director Robert Rodriguez can make lucha libre powerhouse AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración) the biggest game in the states? And what is Billy Corgan doing...."
Longreads Guest Pick: Briana Bierschbach on 'Finding Molly: Drugs, Dancing, and Death'
Girl reporter for Politics in Minnesota. Mother of Dragons.
It was a great week for longreads in America (see: Reuters' 'The Child Exchange' investigation and Rolling Stone's interactive story on hackers who will probably save the world), but one piece was passed around on my social media feeds more than any other: 'Finding Molly: Drugs, Dancing and Death,' by Shane Morris. This piece doesn't exactly exemplify any traditional journalistic values, nor would mom approve of it (warning, this story contains swears), but it's also the most educational thing I've read all week. Did you know that the 'rise of Molly can be traced back to German Shepherds?' Did you know that cartel tactics are being used to traffic Molly? No, I bet you didn't. It's like 'Breaking Bad,' but real. Added bonus: Morris's writing style is amazingly accessible. It feels like you're listening to the confessions of a friend, that is, if you have friends that do/sell a lot of drugs.

Beast 110 - "You Don't Rock Like Me" (YouTube, 2012).
On some HBK meets DB tha General.
Joe Blow - "Time Ain't Money" (YouTube, 2012).
The last minute features a "freestyle" by his cute-as-a-button daughter, Nah'liyah, which can be found on Real Recognize Real. "Time Ain't Money" is off of M.O.B., Blow's least strong release, which still makes it better than 99.9% of the rap released every day.
A ONE - "Young Bay Boss" (YouTube, 2012). The song is fine but limited in subject matter to weed and girls (what's new?). Some cool visuals of North Beach and Chinatown. But more importantly, how does this dude claim San Francisco (or even the Bay) while wearing a Cowboys hat? I'm not even a sports fan like that but the Cowboys are Satan's spawn around here. What was this dude thinking? Yet another reason to choose the other A-1.
