A Funny Thing That Happened Once
I drove through East Texas today and my GPS took me on some backsy state highways. It was a real delight. Everything's so different about Texas relative to the Midwest (except, like oxygen and stuff). Anyway, while I was driving out there with the windows down, I remembered this one thing that happened a couple of years ago when I was in Texas last that made me laugh out loud and that I'd forgotten about until this very day: Scott Kirkpatrick and I stopped at a lonely Subway in the middle of nowhere East Texas. I don't know how it came up (I was probably talking off-handedly about being a road warrior or whatever), but the sandwich girl at Subway was so into the fact that we had just played in Austin, that she bought one of everything from both me and Scott without ever having heard (of) us, effectively paying for our sandwiches and the next meal or two. You just never know what kind of luck you'll have. OR You just never know who you're going to impress the shit out of. -John
