Enjoying the benefits of having a fiancee that’s a good cook, and sports, like a bro sims do.
Hey everyone, found out what was causing my pools weirdness - it was my edited Bro and Insane mod. It was probably already broken when ghosts got added, but I just didn't notice it until now. So, I've spent the last few hours making new, better versions of them.
How are they better? Well, instead of containing ALL THE STRINGS, they now only contain the altered ones, which makes them smaller and easier to update and they hopefully won’t break in the future, but I advise you to move them out of your game folders whenever there’s an update (I have learned my lesson and will now open Origin to check for updates first instead of just merrily double-clicking the game icon and getting surprise updates!) Plus, they now have unique instances, so they shouldn’t conflict with any other strings mods, unless those strings mods contain ALL THE STRINGS.
There are now just two files instead of three, one to change the Bro trait to the Wanker trait and one to change the Insane trait to the Eccentric trait (now with extra changes to casual ableism), but they can both be used at once if you want both the traits gone.
So, yank out your old Wanker/Eccentric/Both mods because they no longer work properly, and replace them with one or both of the new versions.
Eccentric trait | Wanker trait Save them in your Mods folder, that's all there is to it. And always remember to remove your mods before updating the game!
FYI: Grant Rodiek wrote at least some of the book descriptions. He also said that he was the one responsible for the Bro trait in the game. I don't know if he wrote *all* the book descriptions or just some, and if just some, I don't know if he wrote the Reel Her In one. I know I'm probably taking this too seriously, but the curiosity is eating away at me. I guess I should just accept that short of a close personal discussion with a guru, we'll never know what went on behind the scenes.
Does he have a Twitter? You could always ask him questions about it there!
And I'm now suddenly wondering if would have any effect if the sim reading the book had the Bro trait, haha.
OK, I think these are just about ready - mods to replace the Bro trait and the Insane trait. Why? Because I didn't like them as they were. So there's three mods to choose from here, one that replaces the Bro trait with the Wanker trait, one that replaces the Insane trait with the Eccentric trait and one that replaces both. You can only have one at a time and they will conflict with any other mods that alter the game strings.
Please note, these only alter the text. I can't change the icons (yet) and the game behaviour is still the same. Eccentric sims will still experience random emotions, only now they're not hiiiiiilarious nonsense and Wankers will still have their own super duper special completely platonic hug.

Fancy having a go at changing some strings too? Perhaps you want to change the Mean trait to the Asshole trait, or rename WooHoo to Shag Like Bunnies or Tell A Joke About Dicks instead of Ducks. To do so, you'll need to use S4PE to export the .stbl data from Strings_ENG_US.package (usually found in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Data\Client folder) and edit it with TS4 STBL Editor found here. Once edited, simply right-click the package, replace the .stbl data and save it as a new package in your Mods folder. I don't recommend saving over the original, you never know when you might need it again.
ETA: These probably broke when ghosts were added, but I only noticed problems when pools were added, because of course, new strings. Anyway, I've made new, better versions. How are they better? fraulinefive replied to your post:Just a piece of advise just in case you didn't already know (ignore this if you did): an easy way to search through text strings is to copy and paste the text that appears in the preview in S4PE and use "Find" to find the word you're looking for (for example "Bro"). It's much easier than looking through every single string by yourself.
What did you replace ‘bromance’ with, by the way?
These are the three changed strings that discuss bromance:
0xE9E0CC13: {0.SimFirstName} and {1.SimFirstName} have taken their 100% platonic friendship to the next level! 0xC5F10092: These two best wanker friends with the best wanker bond. 0x079A6538: Heterosexual Life Partner
I'm not 100% happy with the second line though. Perhaps "these two wankers have mutually friendzoned each other" would be better.

Oh yeah, that is what I've been doing, but the first time I did it, I looked for whole words only and missed a bromance string, so I just want to check and see if there's any strings that need changing that didn't contain the words 'bro' or 'insane'.
Given the literal definition of "Wanker" that trait has become hilarious.
That is admittedly why I went for Wanker instead of Arsehole. And also because I'm thinking of using that to replace the Mean trait.
It is now the Wanker trait.
