OKAY I noticed a thing and it actually hurts. So knowing most BMC fans, Michael's lil "I'll get replaced by a newer, cooler version of me" probably hurts you. Well this line got me wondering "who exactly did Michael get replaced by?" And I have every reason to believe it is Rich through one scene alone.
When Jeremy encounters Rich in "Sync Up" the first thing he tells Jeremy is that he should come over and play Xbox. Now that little line doesn't seem too important at first glance but when you realize how Xbox is compared to Nintendo by people these days, the parallels between Rich and Michael's relationships with Jeremy stack up.
Michael is very old school, and he's always been a constant in Jeremy's life. Even when not there, Jeremy knows he is. He probably helped shape Jeremy's person just due to how long they've been friends. Just like Nintendo, which is old school, family friendly(mostly) games with a nice hint of retro aesthetic(as of now)to go with its graphics. It's the biggest company in gaming and is kind of the start of video games we know today. Just like Michael molded Jeremy(and vice versa), Nintendo molded video games.
Now for Rich. Jeremy's personal bully of 5'5". When he and Jeremy become "friends", Jeremy is seemingly taken back by this new experience of becoming friends with a cool person. Xbox is a more modern game console(that I myself know little about because I don't play it)and is viewed as "cooler" by most of our generation.
The "newer, cooler" system has been and will continue climbing up in popularity.
Xbox and Nintendo are a metaphor for Rich and Michael and how they relate to Jeremy.
Yeah BMC just went there.
