rereading the first book of the inheritance cycle is just like

you are eragon and you don’t know where you come from. who you come from. you are eragon and you want more than anything to feel like you belong. you are eragon and you know nothing about dragons or riders. you are eragon and you don’t know much but you know you love the dragon in a way you cannot hope to understand. you are eragon and you yearn for a father you never knew. you are eragon and you are named for the first dragon rider. you are eragon. you are the first of a new age of dragon riders. you name your dragon saphira. you name your dragon after the one of your father. you are so much like him. you are so much more than him. and you don’t know.

you are eragon and saphira. you carry on the legacies of so many. you are the last of your kind. you are the first of a new kind. and there is so much that you. don’t. know.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to our beloved storyteller and the nicest old man in all of Alagaësia: BROM!!! I was really undecided at first about how to portray Brom so much so that I made several designs, which I might post later, but I liked the final result, I hope you guys like the result too (≧▽≦). Soon I'll also post our favorite traitor Murtagh, I should probably post it much sooner than Brom's, since I'm almost at the end of his art.

So I’m on my series reread, just got to the Gifts of Gold chapter of Brisingr, and holy shit, Jeod is stronger than me.

“A gray pallor replaced the color in Jeod’s cheeks.”

Like buddy that’s it?

Point is, I would not be able to refrain from losing my shit if my dead best friend’s son was about to tell me about how said best friend died. On top of that, he (probably, based on the “Are you surprised?” “Not really.” exchange in Eragon) knows this is his dead best friend’s son, but the son doesn’t know his mentor was his father! Going pale would be the most minor of my reactions. Sure, Jeod probably has oaths in the Ancient Language keeping him from spilling the beans, but that’s not the point.

All this to say, poor guy. Rip to Jeod for being put through this emotional wringer.

Eragon struggled up the sandstone, resting when his side made it impossible to breathe. When he reached the top, he found Saphira already there. They stood together before Brom’s grave and paid their last respects. I can’t believe he’s gone… forever. As Eragon turned to depart, Saphira snaked out her long neck to touch the tomb with the tip of her nose. Her sides vibrated as a low humming filled the air. The sandstone around her nose shimmered like gilded dew, turning clear with dancing silver highlights. Eragon watched in wonder as tendrils of white diamond twisted over the tomb’s surface in a web of priceless filigree. Sparkling shadows were cast on the ground, reflecting splashes of brilliant colors that shifted dazzlingly as the sandstone continued to change. With a satisfied snort, Saphira stepped back and examined her handiwork. The sculpted sandstone mausoleum of moments before had transformed into a sparkling gemstone vault — under which Brom’s untouched face was visible. Eragon gazed with yearning at the old man, who seemed to be only sleeping. “What did you do?” he asked Saphira with awe. I gave him the only gift I could. Now time will not ravage him. He can rest in peace for eternity. Thank you. Eragon put a hand on her side, and they left together.
