“Well what courses are you taking? That’ll probably tell you. And that I do most of my courses online... and no. I’m not Batman. Both parents still intact.” He shouldn’t have laughed but he did.
“I’m taking AP English, AP Arts, AP History, AP Chem, AP Calc, Honors Physics, Honors Algebra, Language Arts, and a Musical Theatre extra on the side,” he explained nonchalantly. Once he was done speaking then he realized how precociously obnoxious he sounded. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be such a show boat.”
When Gavin responded to his Batman joke, Brooklyn’s whole face and ears turned red and burned hot. “Oh my god, I didn’t mean it that way. Sorry. I’m not someone who pays that much attention to comic books.” He quickly looked away, sticking his nose in his textbooks, hoping Gavin would keep on talking to him albeit his stupidity.

Gavin kind of laughed at others expression when he had been discovered. “Long night huh? Shirley said you’d be in here so I let myself in. I work overnights mostly so, I sleep during the day. Have afternoon classes so I study... late. Normally work 7-2.” Why was he spilling his whole night to this guy?
A tiny bit of Brooklyn’s stress seeped away when he saw the boy’s laugh. “Too obvious, huh? Are you like Batman or something? You know, since you sleep during the day?” He wanted to smack himself after realizing what he said. “Shuck—I meant to say shit and then started saying fuck and I—I’m sorry. I’m a mess,” he said with a defeated, incredulous chuckle. “How come I’ve never seen you before?”

The library was well past its opening hours at a time this late, but thanks to Brooklyn’s acquainting with the librarian, she allowed him to stay, leaving the back door unlocked for him with the key. He’s got several big tests tomorrow, but it seemed like all he learned for the past five hours went in and out of his mind.
Frustrated, he slammed down on the table, sending books toppling over and papers flying. He then heard a disembodied, surprised grunt, and turned around to see someone else standing there, shellshocked; a boy who probably could’ve stepped right out of a Calvin Klein ad. “Oh, sorry... I didn’t think there’d be anyone here at these hours.”

It’s been a long time since Brooklyn visited his cousin Noel Kahn in Rosewood. He had been staying with the Kahns since yesterday, as he had some business to attend to in Philly.
Noel was having a pool party as a graduation and going away party that night, and it seemed like it was in full swing when he came downstairs in his shorts. The house was packed with girls in bikinis and guys in trunks, but before he could do anything, he bumped into someone behind him. “Holy shit,” he cursed as he turned around to see who he bumped into. “I’m so sorry.”

Brooklyn strode up the cobblestone path of the address Matthew Halliwell gave him earlier. He didn’t expect it to be a frat house, above anything. He tentatively rang the bell of the frat house, waiting for an answer.
As soon as the door opened, Brooklyn plastered a wide, unsure smile. “Matthew Halliwell? I’m here to tutor you...?”
