The countless months had seemed endless to Brooklyn as he searched for a way to make Luka whole again. He had tried over and over but failed every time, his only success being an hour or two from spells that took most of his energy and only worked once or twice. He was exhausted, but he wouldn't give up, as he scratched at his over grown stubble, comparing two books, one in latin and one in nordic, he raised his palm. His eyes vibrated with an intense heat before they burst into their signature gold color and his hair was caught in the wind shifting around him. “Quondam vos quod sit totum. hvat var einn sinni ib, munu hvole.” As he chanted, and sparks rose from the floor boards. He felt the house begin to shake below him. What he could also feel was his energy slipping away. “Quondam vos quod sit totum. hvat var einn sinni ib, munu hvole. Ut sit!” And it was as if the magic hit a wall of slow motion, an orb of light emerging in the center of the room, the sparks crawling slowly towards it.
Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this, he thought to himself. “No.” he had to get the words into the thin air. “You tried everything. This is the only way. You have to.” Brooklyn was the son of the most powerful warlock known to man and a vampire queen. He was not short on power, so if he couldn't rise to the kind of magic this would take, he would need someone... more. “From the embers that singe the earth’s core, the darkness that corrodes the corners of the world, I call to you by the shadows. I call to you to give back what has been taken. To return a lost soul. I call upon you lord of darkness, lord of fire, lord of death. I call upon you... Hades!” Brooklyn hung on the anticipation in the air, heart stopped from lack of oxygen in his lungs, but nothing.
“God damn it! What did I do wrong? I’ve never called to a god before, but I should have the power to do it.” He looked back at the books before him and as he read, the ground began to shake. Brooklyn looked back up to the light in the center of the room and swallowed what very well may have been his last breath on earth. Oh shit, what have I done.
