SK Art: " I Get Mad Too"- Weekend Art Show At Mad Gallery NYC
Hello ladies and gents! I am excited for this weekend because I have this dope ass event to attend and I can’t wait. Let me tell you a little about it. First off it’s called the Mad Gallery NYC event and it’s going down this weekend on October 17th, 2015 from 5pm-10pm. It is an event that started a little while back by a gentleman named Marcus Allen. Marcus is also a local artist. He is bringing in a selected 12 local artists to showcase alongside him at the Mad Gallery Event.
One of the artist’s, A.Boogie has already been mentioned in previous Street Khemistry Art post. At this event we get to see his expanded “Ripped Effect” series collection with more iconic images done in the A.Boogie style. There is a special piece that is a tribute piece to Keith Haring that I am dying to see.
Then we have Graph Atik he’s a unique artist that creates portraits of iconic images using this very classical way of painting. His style reminds me of a modern day twist to Jacob Lawrence technique. I really love how he uses angles and shapes to stylize his pieces.
I am interested in getting to know more about this artist Brooklyn Tee. I love pin up art and I really like how Brooklyn Tee pushed this image of Betty Paige to even further heights by showing a vulgar but sad emotion. Love this piece.
I am also excited to meet this young artist Molly Goldfarb. She is a NYU graduate who is known for acrylics and markers pieces but has begun to use canvases and delve into digital work. This piece that was used for submission I think should hang in every makeup room that exists. It’s very Andy Warhol like in a funhouse mirror. I mean it showcasing beauty, femininity and madness. Bravo Mag! keep up the excellent work.
Tommy Mitchell is precise and clean with his pieces. He can capture any detail sharply using pencil and adding mixed media.
Winnie Estevez a young artist hailing from New Jersey is known for her fine arts work. She is really drawn to anything relative to fashion design. Her pieces are colorful and show a flair of glamour and fashion. Winifer’s goal is to help inner city children believe and know they can achieve any dream that they desire. To not let society tell them differently.
Will Porter a street artist who has had strong influential support from his older brother to become a better artist has been bursting through the scene with his strong artist urban style. His piece reflect great portraiture technique and caricature charisma.
Artist Brandy Josephine details a true quirkiness in her pieces. Her pieces have a very detailed tapestry quality that I find unique and quite interesting with her choice of young cartoon like characters. The way she blends her colors are beautiful and to a trained eye it’s obvious that as simple a subject she might have the amount of detail work put in to achieve the final executed piece took a lot of labor.
KEEBS an artist familiar with the Mad Gallery NYC event since he has been a participating artist before is bringing us the combination of mystery and textile once again. KEEBS works is one I find to be interesting because the choice of color and subject depicts a character going through a melancholic mood and growth of inner being. I feel like KEEBS pieces tend to make wonderful novel cover art.
Dominique Davenport is an FIT Illustration artist. She uses the media that is required for the task at hand. This means that her pieces are unpredictable in nature and I like that. Lastly but not least is amazing illustration and designer Elliot Gerard. He has worked with Sports Illustrated, SNY, ESPN, The Madison Square Garden Company directly with the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, Disney, Marvel, Activision, 2K Games, Major League Gaming, The Fresh Air Fund just to name a few. His work isn’t limited to just sports his designs have been worn by Jada Kiss and athletes.
Please come and join all of us and these amazing artists this Saturday at the Mad Gallery NYC event. To stay updated follow the social media below.
