Darkness. That was all that existed for him until now- nothing but void and empty silence that changed in an instant. He inhaled suddenly and was met by humid sour air- something wet dripping onto his face. Hazel eyes crack open, a soft groan escaping the man, and he brings a hand up to shield his vision as neon lights streak his vision. A bloom of color that washed this dark world in vibrancy that was so very foreign to him. He could hear music from the other end of the alley, voices and laughter along with an assortment of other less distinguishable sounds. Where the hell was he?
Slowly he moved the hand back down to brace himself against a crate he'd been propped up against only for it to crumble beneath his touch- as though he were perhaps too strong or heavy for it. The brunette caught himself quickly but was certainly made more alert from the sudden little jolt. Looking around he realized that he'd been laying in some kind of trash heap- though he couldn't recall how he'd gotten there or how long he'd been there. Not going to remember by just laying here either. He thought to himself, quickly snapping back to the strange predicament he now found himself.
Carefully he got to his feet, legs wobbling for a moment as he got used to the sensation, and braced himself against the wall to his left. Maybe someone would recognize him out on the main street and he'd be able to figure out how in the world he'd gotten there.
Making his way towards the bright stream of neon lights was slow but with each careful step he took it felt like he was getting a better grip on the motion. He watched his feet as he walked eyes downcast and studying every little step he took- the way his toes sort of flared out when he had to correct his balance or how he needed to try and distribute the weight more evenly rather than on his heels. He didn't think to wonder why he was barefoot in a dirty trash heap- or why walking felt so strange to him...
He looked up however when his hand felt a corner, finally having reached the end, and now came face to face with the bustling street. There were lots of different people about- some standing around talking or drinking while others haggled in secret here and there. Some were performers and were doing tricks or offering games for money, he even saw a man trying to sell some kind of strange animal to an intoxicated couple that was walking past-
He didn't recognize any of it though...
The brunette stood in silence, taking in every little detail that he could, but felt a hand on his shoulder and looked to find a woman tugging him towards stall that was offering up free samples of... something. "You look like you could use a lil' pick-me-up, darlin'." She chimed hypnotically as she lead him over. The woman was dressed in a tacky orange dress with a short hoop-skirt that looked to be sliced up to resemble the veins in a leaf, sleek black pants beneath it, and heels that looked more like weapons than fashion accessories.
He was dressed in a sleep white outfit that seemed to cling to his flesh- sleek and sterile looking- in stark contrast with the vibrant colors of the street and it's occupants. He looked completely out of place...
"No, thank you-" He tried, only to have a spiral shaped glass thrust into his hand. He sort of stared at it for a moment, not quite sure what to do with it, then looked to the woman as she sort of giggled and brought the drink to his lips- practically forcing him to take a sip. He did- but almost immediately choked on it- frowning as she gave another laugh... He forced a smile- not really knowing what else to do- and slipped away when she became preoccupied with a woman looking for another drink.
It didn't take him long to be nabbed by someone else though, this time one of the people offering up a game of some sort- gambling. He lost- of course- but then again he wasn't exactly sure what it was he was supposed to be doing to begin with. Someone started to lean on him- rambling on drunkenly about something- and eventually draped some kind of colorful fabric over his shoulders before wandering off. Another woman stopped to carefully braid a little portion of his hair- braiding a little strip of iridescent metal in- and smiled before wishing him well...
He smiled after that, finding that he'd actually quite liked that last little exchange, and by now was beginning to wander the area out of curiosity rather than confusion. It was bright and everyone was laughing or smiling and color seemed to seep out of every corner. A young man with part of his head shaven stopped the brunette, his eyes gleaming bright like the neon signs and four small little ridges above each eyebrow, and quickly pulled him off to dance-
He didn't know how to dance but was clearly a fast learner- and oh did he like to dance.
He twirled the younger man around, his graceful form spinning with ease and perfect balance, and laughed with him as he came to a sudden halt with the music, "What's your name-?" He asked, panting faintly from the sudden jolt of excitement and energy.
"My name?" He echoed the question, thinking for a moment, "James." The name felt strange on his tongue but knew that it was his, even if he couldn't remember ever having heard anyone else speak it before.
"Well James, you're a good dancer."
They lingering there for a few moments more but eventually the bright eyed dancer bid him goodbye and quickly slipped back into the crowd- but not until he'd given James a little peck on the cheek. He stared for a long while, fingers tapping the glass he still had in hand lightly, almost as though he were waiting for him to return... That had been really nice...
Maybe somebody else would dance with him if he waited-
