Brookside Mall is a synth-rock band out of Fredericton New Brunswick and this their self-titled latest LP. Brookside Mall's 8 track project is a nostalgic blend emotive indie rock and synthesizers that give there band a full sound. "Twenty Thirteen" is a great opener to the album the track features passionate baritone vocals about having a strong affinity for 2013. The guitars on the track bring a lot of energy while the track still has some dream pop vibes as well. "O.K" is amongst the catchiest of the songs here, it has rhythmic drum pattern and sprawling guitar tones that aid by synths the hover in the background. A bouncing bass groove and sharp drumming create the canvas for fun "Resignation." Most of the songs here deal with romanticizing the past and "One Day I Returned" touches on this poignantly as it speaks to going back to a place you remember fondly only to find out almost nothing is the same as when you left it, just a reminder you're longing for a time that no longer exists. So if you're looking for a project that's energetic, fun, sentimental and at times effervescent I'd definitely give this project a listen.
