Some of the small towns on the prairie seem content to quietly wither away but others are vigorously reinventing and promoting themselves with quirky attractions, public art, and special events. Arcola is certainly one of these, claiming not only broomcorn prominence but also ownership of the coveted "birthplace of Raggedy Ann & Andy" title.

I'm making a custom witch broom out of Broomcorn for Halloween and thought I'd share this detailed page on how to do it for anyone else interested in making a broom, whether it be for costume, cosplay, or just an interest in traditional crafts.

I'll of course be skipping the part where you sew the broom flat...since it's a witch broom.

Broomcorn has a coarse, fibrous seed head that has been used to make various types of brooms and brushes for several hundred years.

In this poem, Emily Dickinson uses a sweeping housewife to describe the sunset.

In case you're wondering... it is incredibly difficult to weave a broom on a horribly blustery day. A little too messy to weave one in the kitchen as well. 😳typically it would have been weaved onto its handle, but I can't decide if I should give it a long or short handle.
