On Sept 18, 2009 the University of California increased our student fees by 32% due to the Great Recession. It was unfair that our college system couldn't develop a self sustaining financial culture with students because their lack of efficiency resulted in thousands of students dropping out of school in the 2009-2010 school year. I earned over $100,000 on financial aid and scholarships so I was not affected financially but emotionally I was devastated seeing friends suffer. While protesting, I was tased 3 times. The last tase, this tase, left my body Inmobile for minutes. I laid on the ground helpless until @thatdudedev, pulled me to safety. The crowd began throwing trash at the police and this picture was posted on national news and the school newspaper. I recovered that day and rejoined the protest but I decided not to stand in front since Black Males were the only ones to report being tased that day. For a smart kid outta Crenshaw High, I recognized that day, again, the police are modern day slave catchers. Unfortunately for them, I am freedom fighter in more ways than one. Freedom has already won and their resistance shall not prosper. Equitable education for all. #UCLA #BlackBruins #BrownBruins #protest #BHM #motivation #college #tbt #BarackObamaTShirt (at Covel Commons)
