Brown Dipper (Cinclus pallasii) Though named “crow” in Japanese due to its appearance, it is taxonomically quite distant, being considered closer to the flycatcher and thrush family. It dives into rivers to search for food such as aquatic insects and small fish. Around Karuizawa, we often encounter them in mountain streams, but I also recall being surprised to spot one in an urban river in a large city.
