BINGSU & CAKES AT BROWN SPOON 😍 // Really impressed with the sweet potato cake (aud7.30) and strawberry cheesecake (aud7.30) at Brown Spoon, Victoria Park. Menu on @perthfoodmenu The sweet potato cake had layers of light, fluffy sponge cake and sweet potato filling which wasn’t too sweet. Came with a dollop of fresh cream on the side of the cake. Strawberry cheesecake was good too - love the crumbly biscuit base. Bungeoppang bingsu (aud14.90) consisted of the Fish-shaped pastry filled with ice cream and red bean paste sitting atop shaved ice with red bean paste and mochi. Wiki trivia: “Bungeo-ppang (붕어빵; "carp bread") is a fish-shaped pastry stuffed with sweetened red bean paste. It is one of the most common winter street food in Korea. It is often sold at street stalls, grilled in an appliance similar to a waffle iron, but with fish-shaped molds. MISUGARU & DESSERTS // Korean drinks and desserts from cosy, quaint cafe Brown Spoon, Victoria Park. Interiors, cake display and menu on @perthfoodmenu Loved the Misugaru drink (aud5) here. It’s a traditional Korean multi-grain drink that is super fragrant and filling. Also tried the Pat Bingsu (Korean shaved ice; aud12.90), green tea honey bread (aud10.80) and Injeolmi ice cream (aud6.50). Personally prefer the Misugaru drink more than the aforementioned three desserts. Wiki trivia: “Misu (미수) is a beverage made from Korean traditional grain powder, misu-garu (미숫가루; misutgaru; "misu powder") which is a combination of 7–10 different grains. It is usually served in the hot summer days to quench thirst or as an instant nutritious drink for breakfast or as a healthy snack. In a Joseon Dynasty (an ancient Korean Dynasty) recipe book, misu was mentioned as stir-fried barley (gu). Gu was a delicacy of that time and easy to serve as one went to travel. Misu is made of glutinous rice and other ingredients such as barley, yulmu (Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen), brown rice, black rice, black soybeans, corn, white bean, millet, and sesame seeds which are ground, roasted and/or steamed, then mixed together. Misugaru is commonly added to water or milk and stirred to make a drink. Sugar or condensed milk can be added as sweetener.
