As LA has been re-opening & we’ve been re-emerging out of our pods, part of that has been reminding each other that we’re still here— so I’ve been especially loving re-connecting with other Angelenos again, like fellow #BrownTrinityMFA alum @jillknoxpowell. When I first lived in LA for the brief time after grad school & before I went off to work at @osfashland, she was such a big part of making me feel so welcome & hopeful to be here! Hey LA, you’re pretty great: Today I got to visit @jdlomeli11’s workplace at the gorgeous @musiccenterla where he kicks ass in the development & advancement department, then we filled our bellies to the max with delicious Chicago-style deep dish pizza (which was pretty legit for Echo Park & reminded me of my #Northwestern days). Afterwards we headed back to the center hoping for tickets for the 3rd to last performance of #WhatTheConstitutionMeansToMe at the @marktaperforum—which they of course didn’t have by the time it was our turn in line— then one of the women in the group ahead of us who got the last seats came back to offer us one ticket that was given to her earlier by Matthew Lillard— yes, the actor. (Side note: while in line, we also literally bumped into Elizabeth Banks on her way in.) Josh insisted I take the ticket & enjoy the show without an ounce of hesitation or wistfulness (bc he’s that kind of generous & genuine friend). I ended up sitting next to Mr. Lillard’s female companion (who I think may have been his daughter) but I didn’t get a chance to thank him bc the show started as soon as I sat down & he left as soon as the show ended. But thank you Matthew Lillard wherever you are because I got to see this amazingly relevant & resonant show for free.
