Be careful of his back Shadow, his spine is bruised, badly it seems. :( I don't even know how he's going to find a comfortable way to lay down honestly... He's got his two cracked ribs and then bad bruising on his spine, a shoulder blade, and a forearm. Best of luck with taking care of him. :(

Hm. *Shadow nods and shifts his hold on Sonic. He can hear the group continue their fight as he leaves the building. He spreads his wings, flying as fast as he can back to the house. The further away Sonic is from the battle, the less chance he'll have of trying to fight again. And the better Shadow can prevent him from running off. He slips into their bedroom through the window and very gently places Sonic in their bed. Sonic winces in his sleep, but relaxes as his body eased into the comfy mattress. Shadow stands there, looking down at his bruised body. His hands clench into fists at his sides* .... Why must you continue to let this happen, you fool.... You idiot... *He does his best to hold it together. He sits on the other side of the bed, careful not to move him as he takes Sonic's hand, gently rubbing his thumb over the promise ring on his finger* ... I love you too much to lose you over your stupid pride.. *His wings melt back into his fur and he lays down next to Sonic, still holding onto his hand as Sonic sleeps*

Well uh, at least Tails is having fun up there, lol. You were saying, Shadow?

Thank you. *He looks back at Sonic, rubbing his hand with his thumb. Sonic is watching Tails fly around in the sky. He's chasing birds around now. Sonic calls up to him*

Better come down before you get tired, lil bro!! *He grins as Tails waves at him, acknowledging what he said*

Hm? *Sonic looks over at him*

*Sonic's expression falters* ... Oh. Right. Sure. What's up?

... I and the others have noticed a... Pattern. It worries us. One where you intentionally throw yourself into harm's way, regardless of your strength or injuries.

Well, yeah. I do it to save my friends.

Yes, but.. Look around you. Your friends are incredibly strong. All of them. You may be a hero, but... You do not need to sacrifice yourself for them.

But I want to. I mean, hah... *He smooths back his quills, looking up at the sky* What else am I supposed to do? I'm the hero. The savior. Always have been. I like to do it.

But doing that may end up costing more than it's worth.

*Sonic turns to look at him, his expression hardening* My friends are worth it. You're worth it.

Sonic. Listen to me. If you hadn't gone to save Amy.. If it had just been the others.. She would still have come home safely. The only difference is that you wouldn't have gotten hurt.

*Sonic presses his lips together. Shadow is right. He hates that he's right. Sonic looks away*

*Shadow squeezes his hand* It's noble of you to want to save your loved ones, Sonic, but all you're doing is putting yourself in unnecessary danger. Even when you're already hurt.

If I don't do that, then who am I supposed to be, Shads. What purpose do I have other than that?

Being a good friend. A father. A partner. A brother. You're incredibly important. You're the one person who brought this family together. That alone is an incredible gift.

*Sonic's eyes glisten as he stares at his shoes*

We all want you to be safe, my love. That's all. Even when you do run back into battle, just..... Please. Know when to tap out. For our sakes and your own.

Hm.... Perhaps. You are not a burden in general, but when you're reckless like this, it adds a level of stress to everyone, yes. We would all rather you lean on us for support.

*Sonic sighs and lays back on the roof, his free hand under his head* ...... Guess I just.. Feel like I need to prove myself. Prove that I'm still the hero.

*Shadow lays next to him, still holding his hand* ... You'll always be my hero.

Pshh, sap~ *Sonic nudges him affectionately. Shadow smiles at him* Heheh... Thanks, babe..

Of course. You've done so much for these people. For people who were your enemies. People you didn't even know. No one in their right mind wouldn't see you as a hero.

Especially then. It takes a strong person to allow themselves to rest. You aren't giving up. You're trusting your team to fight alongside you when you're down.

*At this, Sonic smiles. He scoots closer, snuggling against Shadow's chest fluff* ... Thanks..

AGH- *He tenses as he feels his ribs seal back together, then relaxes. The pain in his spine, shoulder, and arm eases. His ribs ache a bit, then go back to feeling normal. He sits up, twisting a bit to test his back* Woah... Hell yeah!! Thanks, anon! Right on time.

Indeed. Silver cleared our schedule of people so we have the day to ourselves. He's a good son.

The best! But you know who the best hu- Boyfriend~? *He scoots across the bed and stands up, moving closer to Shadow*

*Shadow just smiles, crossing his arms as he looks Sonic up and down* Hm.

Mhm. *Shadow drapes his arms around Sonic's shoulders* It's a shame you don't have shoes that give you some extra height like mine.

How's Sonic after everything? You better be careful with your rib and spine. I would recommend wrapping it up... again.

Shadow how are you feeling? I know you're probably exhausted trying to keep Sonic away from danger, but know that he doesn't do it on purpose. He just has a lot of... let's just say... confidence in his abilities and he doesn't feel the need to ask for help. I should know that better than anyone else because I'm the exact same way, I don't feel like I need other's help and honestly, it's something I still struggle with today. I want you to know Shadow, that Sonic cares for you, and you do as well, and nothing can take that away from you two. I do hope you two know that you can't just rely on yourself, you may need help from others as well.

Oh geez, I didn't think I would be going this deep into my thoughts about overconfidence and asking for help...sorry if I ruined the mood Shadow. I can really ramble on about this for a while.

*Shadow is awake. He's gently brushing Sonic's quills while he hurkle-durkles in bed, half asleep. Shadow nods to you, speaking softly* Thank you for sharing. It is... It is nice to know that this is something he isn't alone in. His struggle, I mean. Hopefully you can find it in yourself to ask for help when you need it, just as I hope Sonic can. You both deserve that kindness. You didn't ruin the mood. Sonic may still be resting, but I have been awake for hours. *He leans down and gently kisses Sonic's cheek and jaw a few times to wake him*

Sure. *He glances at you as he walks down the hall* Sonic and I did some research this morning. Apparently binding broken ribs can actually make them worse. I'm glad that didn't happen last time when we tried it. What Sonic needs is purely rest and breathing. He'll be alright. Thank you for your concern, 🎱.

*Shadow glares in his sleep as his phone buzzes. He sighs and grabs it from his side table without moving too far from Sonic. He checks it, squinting at the bright light. He stares at each photo for an extended moment, taking his time scrolling through them. His expression doesn't change, but he frantically taps Sonic's hand, his shoulders shaking as he holds in laughter. He coughs as a laugh tries to escape*

Agh... *Sonic groggily opens his eyes* ... Babe..? Where's the fire..? *He blinks rapidly as Shadow shoves his phone in Sonic's face, scrolling through the pictures. Sonic's eyes widen. A grin slowly appears on his face. He giggles, then winces as it hurts his ribs. He doesn't stop smiling, though* ..... Oh. My chaos. Is it my birthday?

Not for a bit over a week, my love.

Yes. *Shadow starts sending them to Sonic and everyone else for good measure. He doesn't look up as Sonic takes his hand. He just laces their fingers together*

He ends up finding him in what looks to be some kind of breakfast nook/evil console combo room. He's sitting on a stool at a table eating childhood snacks while Stone hums at the kitchenette. *He's sitting at a table, eating celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins on them. His nose is still runny but he isn't crying anymore* I'm feeling better... Stone let me talk about why I was upset and made me a snack! *He takes a bite of celery* He's like a mom.

Well pride is certainly an element of why Sonic acts this way but I doubt that's all there is to it... I bet he does totally attach way too much of his self worth to his heroism though. He admitted earlier that he could use a vacation, that he'd like to take you with him Shadow, and just go hide on an island or something for a while. He's completely convinced that everyone else will get hurt somehow if he does that though. Like he's never allowed a break and it's his responsibility to always be ready to protect everyone he cares about and more no matter how badly he needs some respite. I think it's that strange paranoia that keeps him in fights long after he should have tagged out too. It seems really sad honestly, like he thinks he'll lose his everything again if he's not defending it to the point of self destruction.

*Shadow sips his coffee, crossing his legs as he holds a sleeping Sonic's hand with his free hand* Sonic absolutely has a hero complex. As you and a few others have mentioned, he's spent his life saving others. Being the knight in shining armor for everyone around him. The one thing that can save them from harm. But when he becomes weakened, he doesn't know when to stop and let them save him instead. He knows he's powerful, but he often forgets that his friends are powerful, too. I think the idea of a vacation is a good one. Perhaps I can convince him to come with me someplace. *He rubs Sonic's hand with his thumb* Angel Island, maybe. If I can convince the echidna. Though I may need Amy's help getting Sonic to respect himself a bit more first. She's practically our live-in therapist at this point.
