 “you  know  what  i  think  we  need,  babe?  a  vacation. Not  a  long  one  because  you  know  this  place  would  fall  apart  without  us,  but  a  weekend  trip  to  a  hotel  where  we  use  fake  names  and  buy  overpriced  gifts  for  people. Maybe  then  they’d  appreciate  us  and  realize  that  we  do  things  royal  princes  can’t  even  dream  of. Champagne  in  a  jacuzzi  sounds  nice,  right?”

“c’mon  coop,  out  ya  go!  ”  iolani  pops  open  the  trunk  of  her  jeep,  letting  the  seventy  pound  golden  retriever  free.  as  he  lands,  he  kicks  up  sand,  tongue  hanging  out  and  tail  wagging  with  excitement.  while  iolani  is  busy  pulling  her  gear  out  of  the  back,  from  the  corner  of  her  eye  she  notices  cooper  acquainting  himself  with  someone.  “  oh,  don’t  worry,  he’s  friendly!  he’s  never  bit  anyone  or  anything  in  his  life.  you  can  pet  him  if  you  want!  scratch  him  right  behind  his  ears  and  he’ll  probably  wanna  go  home  with  you  instead.  ”  

with  a  grunt,  she  pulls  the  cooler  out,  letting  it  drop  onto  the  ground.  she  glances  over  at  the  beach  where  everyone  else  is  gathered.  “  i’m  surprised  everyone  still  has  their  clothes  on.  kinda  relieved  too,  ”  she  grimaces  but  tries  to  turn  it  into  a  smile,  “  i  hope  i’m  not  too  late  for  caving.  ”

          “   oh !   i’m so sorry ,   i didn’t mean to run into you !   ”     ever the saint ,   she immediately crouches to held pick up the items that had fallen out of the girl’s bag .   she stacks them together neatly and stands to offer them back to the stranger she bumped into ,   smiling sheepishly .   “   my apologies .   i’m not usually so absent-minded ,   i promise .   ”
