The Song of Brumdadrum I'm not a songbird, but I'll sing

I'm not a squirrel 'cause I've got wings

And when I'm sleeping, not awake

I'll dream sometimes of Kings and Snakes

And If I'm hungry when I wake up

Upon bright berries shall I sup

For breakfast, dinner, snack or brunch

Afternoon tea, or supper or lunch

Maybe I'll drum! Eh... maybe I'll not

A nap, I think, would hit the spot

I'll drum later, when hens are about

Right now all this eating has tuckered me out

A nap, a song, a snack, a dream,

Perhaps of a squirrel, feathered, with wings.

Brumdadrum and The Soldier, Once More "When solemnly the woodfrogs peep, Brumdadrum is fast asleep! When deep holes all the moles have dug, Brumdadrum snacks on a bug! When snakes are sunning on the rock, Brumdadrum takes a little walk! When chipmunks squeak above the--" "You don't ever, by any chance, walk along without singing, do you? In silence?" The soldier could not take it anymore. It was the third day of this journey since the Battle, and his initial gratitude to his.. benighted but musical savior was wearing thin. Brumdadrum peered brightly over his shoulder at the injured towhee on his back. "No! Why would I, when there are so many tunes to make up?" The towhee groaned and wished for unconsciousness, but he was in fact feeling much better. They had maybe two days left before they reached the Old Mothers at Brumdadrum's ambling pace, according to the the would-be bard. Brumdadrum had mixed a salve of unknown ingredients--not Soothtouched, for certain--and bound it over the soldier's burns. He'd also set Trinkyr's broken wing.  Trinkyr had to admit that the grouse was a talented healer, despite his lack of Soothsong.  Though if he lacked all predilection towards singing, that would be even better. As though his cheerful caretaker could read minds, Brumdadrum cleared his throat, and began to coo once more.
