Just in case you guys couldn’t see the featured picture- These are the stuff I use for this DIY recipe.
It’s no secret that the key to a flawless make up application is using good quality make up brushes. The better the brush the more flawless your make up looks. With that being said, the up keeping of your brush also matters. Cleaning your make up brushes helps with a better make up application and it is just much more hygienic. I’ve tried countless Brush cleaners and I feel as if they don’t do anything for my brushes besides make them stiff lack softness. Some higher end brush shampoos may do the trick but it will only break the bank. After doing some research and some looking in my kitchen pantry, I created my own DIY brush cleaner. This is something I’ve been doing for years now and I know how difficult it is to find a good brush cleaner so I wanted to share this amazing trick with you all !
This brush cleaner literally cost me less than $5.00. The beauty of it is that the products I used are not to difficult to find and you most likely already have the at your house . I use a mixture of Dish Detergent & olive oil to clean my make up brushes. I like to add 2 parts of dish detergent to 1 part olive oil. The Dish detergent is super safe to use- I mean you wash your dishes with it right?

After
I take a clean plastic container and put these two ingredients together. The dish detergent helps to clean and sanitize the brush while the hint of oil helps to condition the brush to make sure it doesn’t lose it’s luster. This recipe also works for make up sponges and beauty blenders but it is a little more time consuming when working with a sponge.

After
Okay, so the way I clean my make up brushes is pretty simple. I first wet the brush with cold water and dip it into the cleaning mixture and then start swirling it in my hand and occasionally squeeze the hair brushes together. Then I run it under water while swirling it in my hand to get the soap and any excess product out.I thing squeeze the brush to get any excess water out before shaping it back to it’s regular shape. This recipe works for all types of brushes from face brushes to eye shadow brushes and everything in between.
Overall, I really do like this hack, it most definitely works and doesn’t break the bank. It leaves my make up brushes feeling brand new where as some actual make up brush cleaners leave my brushes feeling all weird and tampers with their performance. I did try baby shampoo but I prefer this method better. I know this post is kind of random but I really wanted to share this amazing method I have found and personally love so much. I will leave some tips down below as well. Also, I do have a short video on my Instagram demonstrating this whole process so make sure to follow me and check it out ! Stay tuned because I have a lot more reviews and dupes coming up within the next two weeks so make sure to keep checking back to keep up to date with me !Happy Ramadaan to everyone who is celebrating and until next time , bye loves :).
Here are some tips that I recommend when you clean your brushes :
This is kind of odd but I prefer to use the brand of soap known as Dawn -especially their hand renewal line because it is hydrating and it’suppose to keep your hands soft when you wash your dishes with it.This also works for the make up brushes, it keeps them moisturized and not too stiff.
Make sure your brush bristles are dipped in both the dish detergent and the olive oil, if they aren’t dipped in the oil they will be left kinda stiff and we don’t want that !
Always use cold water when washing your make up brushes- hot water may loosen the glue and cause shedding.when washing brushes, always have the handle facing up and the bristles on your palm, the friction with the water is not good.
After washing the brushes, take a clean cloth and just take the excess water out.
Sometimes my brush doesn’t get into the oil and becomes a little stiff so I just use a little but of hair conditioner on it and leave it for a few mins- kinda like deep conditioning and it leaves my brush feeling super soft.
Let your brushes dry over night is a nice airy area.
I clean my brushes once or twice a week every week or two . It depends on how many times I wear make up that week ( usually don’t wear make up on a daily basis so yea )
If you have oily skin or acne prone skin, I Highly suggest cleaning your brushes more frequently
Lastly, don’t over wash your brushes- I usually spray some daily cleaning spray on my brushes when I use them in between washes to get rid of any bacteria on them as well as get a some product off it .
