Brain brained so much I fleshed out a canonically non existent faction out of a Tumblr post and my first 10 hours of DMC 1

i know mermay's almost over but who else are merpeople in the mer au? also the part 5 cast? would the villains be humans? like diavolo, unita speciale or la squadra?

Since I'm a bird mom right now, I won't be able to do as much mermay designs as I would like to. And I haven't given the mer!au much thought beyond the aesthetics and the merfolk spectrum, but I'll indulge you with some gibberish fresh out of my head:

In my mind, in the mer!au, all of the Jojo parts take place somewhere underwater. And this is the part in which the biology stuff gets a bit pushed aside by fantasy.

For example, the Pillar men would be an ancient merfolk species based on marine animals from the cretaceous period. Think of Wamuu as a plesiosaurus, for instance. That kind of thing. Then, the stone mask could be a device that would allow them to rule both land and sea. Or something of the sort.

The main distinction of the mer!au is that we have people living in land and people living underwater; born stand users would be born merfolk, and "made" stand users would be able to go back and forth, or be forced to live underwater for good, like a curse. This way the Joestar lineage would be pretty much cursed.

Following this last thought, both Polnareff and Kakyoin would be born as merfolk. Kakyoin strikes me as an eel type of merfolk, a more gentle one unlike Abbachio (oops, spoiler). Or a sepia, because of the controlling properties of Hierophant Green. In Polnareff's case, I'd say a dolphin kind of merfolk. A Beluga! Y'know, because of the hair. As for Avdol, I'm thinking of a giant squirrelfish (Sargocentron spiniferum).

Jotaro is based off of an orca, period. And old Joseph would be either an octopus or a squid (kraken, if you will, but just a smaller one).

Talking about Joseph, younger Joseph fought the Pillar men as a human, capable of longe periods of breathing underwater thanks to Hamon, which allowed him to pump great volumes of water through his body and extract oxygen out it. That, aside of the regular physical feats he was able to pull off normally on land. You may say, "but there's less diluted oxygen in water than in air!" Bae, Jojo is all about crazy stuff, let the boys be crazy.

As for Dio... I'm not sure yet, I'll take suggestions.

On the other hand, I'm not completely aware wether Diavolo, La squadra or la Unita speciale are all born stand users or not. In any case, they'd follow the guidelines stated above.
