The Social Network - “Is Your Name Stanford?”
Me, my wife and son went out to the cheapie movies yesterday afternoon to catch 'The Social Network' (or the "Facebook Movie" as everybody calls it). It has been getting a lot of oscar buzz, so I figured I better catch up with it. Pretty interesting movie, with a great script and an interesting story (even though you might not think so at the outset, thinking, "oh boy, another movie with a computer screen as the main character"). I was impressed with the performance by Jesse Eisenberg, who showed a bit depth than usual (previously I had just thought of him as the "poor man's Michael Cera"), and the courtroom deposition scenes make a nice framework for unravelling a fairly complex story. In a dismal movie year, this one stands out as one of the better ones I've seen, but that isn't saying much.
Interesting to see how an application that originally was designed for college guys to rate girls ended up having such a major impact on all our lives (for good or ill). And the one thing I remember vividly about this movie several years later is the girl with the Sanford underwear.
