It still boggles my mind that Bryan and Glynn Lunney are the only parent-child “team” at NASA so far that I know of. I thought there’d be a lot more, and Glynn was a hell of a lot younger than Bryan was when he became a FD. Bryan was 34 and Glynn was 27 ish. Bryan’s pic is from 2006 for STS-115 and Glynn’s is from 1974.
In these photos Bryan was 40, and Glynn was 38. Still wow. Columbia probably aged everyone.
I grew up thinking Bryan Lunney’s dad was just some guy. 5 years ago I find out that his dad is *THE* Glynn Lunney. I can see it and I have no idea how I didn’t realize they were father and son. I’m not going to be shocked if a 3rd Lunney comes along, whether it be Bryan’s kid, or his grandkid.
If one does, I have no idea what their callsign would be. Carbon is taken by Ed Van Cise. Hmmm Obsidian?
